A description is a short notes / information about ledger or stock item. In simple its a short summary about the Ledger Account or stock item,
Description is used to print on Invoice / Bill along with Ledger or stock items.
Following is the steps to enable description for ledger in Tally.ERP 9.
1. Description can be enabled in Ledger master creation or alteration screen.

2. Under ledger creation or alteration screen press F12 for "Ledger Configuration settings"
3. Under ledger configuration screen enable the parameter "Use description for ledger Accounts" and Accept the screen" refer Figure 0.1

Now user gets a new "Description" filed where he can enter the description as per his requirement. the same will be printed on Invoice / Bill after create voucher in Tally.ERP9. refer Figure 0.2
