Dictionary meaning of Alias is
"Used to indicate that a named person is also known or more familiar under another specified name."
An Alias in Tally.ERP9 is, an another name given to Tally master, alias is a Secondary Name to Same master,
By calling Secondary Name, Tally pushes data of primary master, as we are calling the Same master with different name.
Alias can be given to Accounting or Inventory Master. Alias could be anything like (Numbers:- 1,2,3) or (Alphabets:- A,B,C or (Alphanumeric:- A1,A2,A3)
For Accounting Masters Alias can be given as Vendor Code or some short code as per business needs and for Inventory Masters Alias can be given as Part Number, SKU etc...

In Figure 0.1 for the Ledger "Goodwill Business Solutions" we have given the Alias as "GBS".
In Figure 0.2 Under "List of Ledgers" Tally listed both the titles, selecting any Name fetches the same Report.

Alias can be Enabled or Disables from F12 Ledger Configuration screen
Follow the below steps
From Any Master Creation or Alteration screen ==> Press F12 ==> Under Ledger Configuration scree Enable / Disable the Paramater "Allow ALIASES along with Names". Refer Figure 0.3
